The Local Conference of Youth (LCOY) Nepal 2024, part of the global YOUNGO movement under the UNFCCC, was successfully held in Kathmandu, bringing together nearly 200 passionate youth from across Nepal. With the motto “Local to Global: Youth for Climate Action in Nepal,” the event created a vibrant platform to amplify youth voices, showcase grassroots climate solutions, and strengthen youth participation in national and international climate dialogues.
Jointly organised by Youth Action for Sustainable and Eco Nepal (YASEN) and Sustainability Week Kathmandu (SWK), the conference focused on key thematic areas including Children and Youth Engagement in NDCs, Loss and Damage, Capacity Building through Collaborative Learning and Networking, and Indigenous Knowledge for Climate Resilience.
Over two impactful days, participants engaged in expert-led sessions, policy discussions, interactive workshops, and cultural exchanges. A highlight was the collective drafting of youth policy recommendations for NDC 3.0, offering concrete inputs to strengthen Nepal's climate commitments.
The conference reaffirmed the urgency of youth-driven climate action, highlighting young people's role as innovators, advocates, and leaders. By bridging local knowledge with global processes, LCOY Nepal 2024 demonstrated how youth are shaping inclusive, equitable, and sustainable climate solutions for Nepal and beyond.
